Who we are

You probably know one of us from somewhere.

Rita Whitney has been working in the realm of non-profit startups and cultural funding in York for 15 years. She previously owned Prime Art Supply, as well as co-founded the Parliament Arts Organization during the original development of the Royal Square District in 2010. On the non-profit side, she has been a founding board member for 3 other organizations, bringing her experience to help other cultural organizations get off the ground. Rita brings a vast network of economic development leaders to the table, as well as community investors and foundations. As a youth Rita developed and hosted shows in unique venues in her hometown because there wasn’t a designated space her music community.  

Tom Klimek is a classically trained cellist who is deeply embedded in the Central Pennsylvania music scene. Tom teaches private lessons to students and is encouraging the next generation of punks through arrangements of The Runaways and Mannequin Pussy. He is also a primary volunteer for the York Youth Symphony Orchestra.  Tom is the managing member of Bent Nail Booking and will oversee all booking in the venue.

Cal Weary is an award-winning arts educator, cultural leader, and performing artist based in York, Pennsylvania. A graduate of York College of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Communications, Cal now serves as a professor at his alma mater, where he mentors the next generation of creative thinkers and performers. Known for his dynamic teaching style and passion for student success, he brings over 25 years of experience to the classroom, stage, and community.  Cal is the founder and CEO of Weary Arts Group (WAG), where he creates custom arts programs, builds partnerships, and directs multidisciplinary productions that empower youth and enrich communities. Under his leadership, WAG has grown into a vital arts hub known for innovative curriculum, vibrant performances, and inclusive programming. His ability to design transformative educational experiences stems from his deep understanding of both artistic practice and community needs.

Jake Compton is the owner/founder of the Harrisburg Improv Theatre. Jake started improvising in 2004 taking classes at both the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and the Magnet Theatres in New York City. Currently Jake is an instructor and performer at the HIT. He can be seen in Hardly Working, Bandito, and Love Triangle. Jake also helps create and shape many forms and themes used by both his teams and others. Jake has been purchasing and renovating properties, including his own theatre for 15 years in Harrisburg, PA.
